Loyalty In Our Nation’s Service

Since the early 1940s, the Deer River Lions Club has lived out the Lions motto, “We Serve.” From youth recreation and public spaces to food shelf support and community cleanup projects, the club remains committed to making the greater Deer River area stronger.

What started as local service has become part of something much bigger. The Lions Club connects 1.3 million men and women across more than 200 countries and regions, all working together to improve lives in their own communities and around the world.

Serving locally and beyond

In addition to supporting dozens of local causes, the Deer River Lions also contribute to state, national, and international programs including the Lions Eye Bank, Leader Dog initiatives, diabetes research, and other life-changing efforts.

The Wild Rice Festival

For more than 70 years, the Deer River Lions have sponsored the World’s Largest Wild Rice Festival as their primary fundraising effort, bringing thousands of people together for a weekend centered on community.

About the club

A tradition of service in Itasca County

The Deer River Lions Club exists to serve the community. That means helping where help is needed, supporting local programs, and raising funds that go right back into causes that make a real difference.

Whether sponsoring a swimming program and public park for local youth or stepping in to support the area food shelf and roadside cleanup projects, the Deer River Lions continue to invest in the people and places that make this community home.

The club also supports a wide range of charitable efforts that reach far beyond Deer River. From the fight against blindness to assistance dogs and health research, Lions members work together to support those facing difficult challenges.

The Wild Rice Festival remains the club’s signature fundraising activity and a major part of its identity. In recent years, it has continued to grow, drawing thousands of people together for a weekend built around celebration, connection, and local pride.

The Deer River Lions Club exists for the community, and it thrives because of community support. Thank you for helping keep that tradition alive.
